How to Create a SCORM Activity

Acorn PLMS has the ability to host a variety of content formats. One of these content formats is SCORM. SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model and in simple terms, can be described as a powerpoint presentation with an extra layer of interactivity.

The SCORM activity module enables SCORM or AICC packages to be uploaded as a zip file and added to a course. Alternatively, the URL of a remote SCORM or AICC package can be provided.

Acorn PLMS supports SCORM 1.2. SCORM 2004 is not supported.

To upload a SCORM activity, follow the instructions below:

1. Add a new activity within a Course or Live Learning. Or update an exiting activity within a Course or Live Learning.

2. Select SCORM from the Activity Type dropdown menu.

3. In the Create a New Activity page complete the following fields:

  • SCORM Title - e.g. Security Awareness.

  • SCORM Description - Briefly describe the module the users.

  • Show description on Course page - Configure the optional toggle button to prevent the SCORM description from displaying in the Course view page (directly below the SCORM name). The default setting (blue button) is to display the SCORM description.

  • SCORM Package File - Either drag and drop it onto the Create a New Activity page in the designated area, or click the Browse Files button in the middle of the page. Click on the file image in the same area to remove it.

  • Force New Attempt - When a user opens the SCORM activity a new attempt will be automatically created. This will only occur when a user's previous attempt has the completed, passed or failed status.
  • Hidden to Users - Configure the optional toggle button to hide an activity. A hidden activity is never visible to general users, and is used to restrict access to certain material to administrators and facilitators. The default setting (white button) is not to hide an activity.

  • Icon (optional) - Click the SELECT ICON button to choose a simple icon to appear adjacent to the activity name in the Course view page. Click the CHANGE ICON button to change it, or click directly on the icon to remove it.

  • Previous Course Completion Prerequisite - Configure the optional toggle button to require the user to have completed this course previously to be allowed access to this activity. This is useful for refresher training, that might allow users a shorter version of the content if they have done the training before. The default setting (white button) is not to require the Course to have been completed prior.

  • Activity Prerequisites (optional) - Click the ADD PREREQUISITE button repeatedly to define if All or Any of the selected activities must be completed before this activity can be accessed by users. If a prerequisite is hidden to a user for any reason, they will not be required to complete it before accessing this activity.

  • Completion Criteria - Select one of the following four activity completion criteria before this activity is marked as completed: Users must complete the SCORM package; Users must view the SCORM package; Users must manually mark themselves complete (regardless of having viewed the SCORM package); or Disable activity completion if there is no requirement to mark off this activity as completed.

4. Click the CREATE ACTIVITY button at the bottom of the page.
