Content Types in Acorn PLMS

Understanding the different content types in Acorn helps you structure learning experiences effectively. Below is a quick guide to the core content types available within the platform:

Courses

Definition:
Courses are structured learning modules that typically include one or more pieces of content (e.g. videos, resources, assessments, or SCORM files). They often represent self-paced learning that can be completed over time.

Use Case:
Use courses for formal learning programs, onboarding modules, compliance training, or any content that requires structured progression and completion tracking.

Live Learnings

Definition:
Live Learnings are scheduled, instructor-led sessions that take place in person or via video conferencing tools (e.g. Microsoft Teams or Zoom). These are real-time events that users register and attend at a specific date and time.

Use Case:
Perfect for workshops, training sessions, webinars, or team briefings that require live participation, interaction, or Q&A.

Pages

Definition:
Pages are flexible content blocks that can be used to present rich text, images, links and other content directly within the LMS. They are usually used to share information rather than track learning completion.

Use Case:
Great for internal documentation, onboarding instructions, learning hub homepages, or contextual information to support other learning content.

Resources

Definition:
Resources are static files or links that users can view or download. These may include PDFs, Word documents, presentations, or external web links.

Use Case:
Best used for reference materials, job aids, policies, templates, or supplementary documents that support a learning activity.

Videos

Definition:
Videos are multimedia learning assets that can be uploaded directly onto the platform. They can be used as standalone items or embedded within a course or page.

Use Case:
Ideal for product demonstrations, explainer videos, CEO messages, or visual walkthroughs that enhance engagement and retention.
