Understanding Multi-Tenancy in Acorn
Understand how Acorn's multi-tenancy model keeps your data isolated and manageable.
What is a tenancy?
A tenancy is a fully isolated instance of Acorn PLMS for your organisation. All data — users, courses, completions, integrations — is contained within your tenancy and is not visible to other tenancies.
Why organisations use multiple tenancies
- Subsidiaries or business units: Separate environments for distinct brands or departments.
- Sandbox/staging: A test environment that mirrors production.
- Client tenancies: Training providers who manage separate environments for each client.
Navigating between tenancies
If you have Acorm Admin access, you will be able to switch between tenancies by clicking on the user icon
at the top right corner.
Select the tenancy name to switch instantly — no separate login required.
Data isolation
Users in Tenancy A cannot see courses or data in Tenancy B, and vice versa. The only exception is Content Sharing, which allows courses (not user data) to be shared between tenancies.
Shared vs separate admin accounts
An admin can hold accounts in multiple tenancies using the same email address — this is managed separately per tenancy. The exception is the 'User in Another Tenancy' conflict — see Resolving the 'User in Another Tenancy' Error.
Requesting a new tenancy
Contact Acorn Support or your Customer Success Manager to provision a new tenancy (e.g. for a new subsidiary, client, or sandbox environment).
