How to Complete a Capability Assessment

This guide will step you through completing a capability self-assessment, either by following a link from your email or directly through the Acorn platform.

You’ll review your capabilities, choose your proficiency levels, and provide supporting evidence for each.

Accessing the Capability Assessment

You can start your assessment in two ways:

  • From your email – Click the link in the notification email about your assessment.

  • From within Acorn:

    1. Go to your My learning page.

    2. Select the My Capability tab.

    3. Click the Capability Assessment tab (top right of the profile box).

Starting the Assessment

You have two options:

  • Assess individual capabilities – Click Assess next to each capability.

  • Complete all assessments at once – Click Start Capability Assessment.

To complete the assessment:

  1. Click Start Assessment.

  2. Choose the first capability you want to assess.

    • If you previously paused, you’ll be prompted to resume where you left off.

  3. Review the capability description and all available proficiency levels.

  4. Select the proficiency level that best reflects your current ability.

  5. Click Next.

Providing Evidence

  1. Answer the question: “What have you done to demonstrate your proficiency level?”

    • Use the description of your selected proficiency level (shown on the left) to guide your response.

  2. Click Confirm

Completing the Assessment

  1. Continue assessing each capability, or click Finish once all required capabilities are complete.

Important: Once you click Submit, your responses are final and cannot be changed.

Viewing Your Responses

After submission, your completed responses will appear at the bottom of the Capability Assessment tab.

Top Tips for Completing a Capability Assessment

  • Be honest: Choose the level that reflects your actual ability—not where you aspire to be.

  • Use real examples: Reference specific tasks, projects, or achievements in your evidence.

  • Take your time: Read the capability and proficiency descriptions carefully before selecting.

  • Resume later: If you exit early, you’ll be prompted to continue where you left off.

  • Review before submitting: You won’t be able to edit responses after submission.
