How to Upload Your Own Capability Library in Acorn

This guide walks you through uploading a capability library using your own CSV file in the Acorn Capabilities Module.

To upload your own capability library in Acorn, navigate to the Capability Dashboard, select Upload your own Capability Library, define your proficiency levels, upload a formatted CSV file, and confirm publication. The steps below walk through the full process.

If you don’t have a capability framework yet, you can download and edit our template to get started.

To upload your own capability library, follow these steps:

Before you begin

Note: You will need admin or manager-level permissions in Acorn to upload a capability library.

Make sure you have:

  • A CSV file of your capability library formatted to match Acorn's required structure (or plan to use the downloadable template)

  • A defined list of proficiency levels (e.g. Foundational, Proficient, Advanced)

How do I upload my own capability library?

  1. Navigate to the Capability Dashboard.

  2. Click Set Up Capability Library.

  3. From the dropdown, select Upload your own Capability Library.

  4. Click Add Proficiency Level.

  5. Enter each of your organisation’s proficiency levels (e.g. Foundational, Proficient, Advanced).

  6. Click Next.

  7. On the next page, upload your CSV file:

    • If you’re unsure of the correct format, click the Download Template link on screen.

    • Update your existing file to match the template's column structure and formatting before uploading.

  8. Click Choose File (or drag and drop your file into the upload area) to attach your CSV file, then click Next.

  9. Review your capability library:

    • Check that all capability sets, capabilities, and proficiency levels are listed and display correctly. If anything looks wrong, go back and correct your CSV file before re-uploading.

  10. If everything looks correct, click Confirm on the Ready to Publish page.

Your capability library is now uploaded and ready to use across Acorn. You can manage or update it at any time from the Capability Dashboard.
